The Thessalian league was a loose confederation of city-states and tribes on the Thessalian plain in Central Greece, it’s capital, where this coin was probably struck, was Larissa. The league came into being following the defeat of the Macedonians at the Battle of Cynoscephalae in 197 BCE, with the Romans liberating the Thessalians from Macedonian hegemony.
