Lydia, the birthplace of Greek coinage was an important part of the Achaemenid Empire’s struck gold Darics and silver Siglos with the image of the Great King. The coins were modeled on the earliest coinage of the Lydian kings and remained the sole type issued until the conquest of the empire by Alexander the Great.
