The Mughal Empire was founded in 1526 CE by an exiled central Asian prince called Babu. It lasted for over 300 years and covered almost the entire Indian sub-continent at its peak. Alongside, military strength and effective government, the empire also saw the flourishing of a rich and sophisticated culture that blended together native Indian and Persian elements. It became the world’s largest economic power, generating almost 25% of the world’s GDP and industrial output until the 18th century. The Mughal Empire is considered “India’s Last Golden Age“, the very word mogul is used today to describe an important powerful person.
